Shloka 2-Knowledge alone is the direct means of Liberation-
Lets say you have a bad headache and nothing has helped. So you go to medicine cabinet and pick up a bottle of Tyelnol. Just looking at the bottle will not cure the headache. You can try looking at the bottle for hours-that will not solve it. Only taking the medicine will help it….. jnana has to be swallowed, ingested, imbibed to help us evolve. Just reading books and listeningto discourses is not enough.
Shloka 3- Knowledge alone is the anitdote to ignorance-
If you are in a car, on a long drive and you are getting very thirsty, only water/ fluid will quench your thirsty. You may have plenty of stuff with you in the car- snacks, clothes, napkins, books etc but they will not be useful to quench your thirst…..only water will. Try eating a napking when you are thirsty ! Similarly jnana alone is the antidote to avidya.
OR let’s say you plan on going to Venice. You can look at the pictures and the map for million years and trust me,you still will not get there. You have to take a flight/ship to get there. That is the only way………jnana alone is the antidote to avidya.
Shloka 4-Self appears finite due to ignorance
Stand in you bedroom and look outside the window. You will get the view as limited by the window frame. Then go outside and look around. You will see much bigger picture…. Just limited with window frame you see limited scene…..It’s limitation imposed due to ignorance until we take a step to walk out of that…..
Shloka 5-Constant practice of Self Knowledge purifies ego-centric self-
It could be understood like trying to clean one’s book shelf( if it is cluttered), One can start with separating out sheets of paper that need to be recycled vs those that need to be saved; arranged in different folders/ labelling them; organising books based on their relevance- spiritual, fictional, biographies, science, poetry; then organising highlighters/ pens/ pencils/ book marks; throwing away unnecessary objects…..in the end one will have a very clean and organised book shelf where things will be easy to locate……..by constantly working on and towards Self knowledge, decluttering/detaching the mind and intellect one learns to purify self.
