Ignorance or Avidya is what stands between me and the Self. It’s the wall between me and Sat cit Ananda.
I have created Avidya and only I can remove it with continuous practice. In my humble opinion-
There ways to remove Avidya are-
- Viveka- learn to see what is Real and Unreal. Discriminate between the Eternal and ephemeral. Rise from Anatma Vasana to Atma Vasana. Learn to convert Vishayakara Vritti to Brhamkara vritti. That will be good start. Continue to practice mind purification with japa, karma yoga.
- Jnana- Sri Sankara says that Avidya is Naisargika( innate in our mental faculty); Mithyajnanimitta ( based on wrong knowledge); Nityapratyarupa( based on wrong conception). The mind itself is Creation of Avidya. Yet it is through Mind we can attain jnana. So one should study scriptures under the guidance of Guru to develop jnana- deeper understanding of our scripture. One should follow the path of our gurus and Jnanis. One should try to master the mind. It’s mind that binds me. It’s the mind that will set me free.
- Bhakti — the love for God will illumine the path and remove the Avarna ( veil of ignorance) and Vikshepa ( projection).
Ultimately one has to surrender as even the removal of ignorance can happen with only His grace.
