Expectation = Dependency

Formula of Unhappiness-

Dependency= Expectations= Misery= Samsara

I have tried this formula. Obviously It works! Time to give it up.

With all these expectations that enslave us, we become more and more dependent on ephemeral — the Articles, Beings and circumstances. The more I expect from them, the more I depend on them . Conversely the more I depend on them, more expectations I have from them.

By growing expectations, I further stamp the finitude of my existence, wrongly.

I am complete. Yet I keep on looking for happiness in something which is incomplete and cannot make me fulfilled. What a foolish way to live !

Sat -Cit- Ananda is my Nature. I have enveloped it with ugly colors of raga, dvesha, moha, bhaya.( likes, dislikes, attachments, fear).

The stories I can tell about the expectations I have had; the disappointments that they bred; the unhappiness that created. Perhaps that can be read from the wrinkles on my face.

By inventing this dependence, I empowered ‘others’ to control me. I was stifled and imprisoned by my own expectations. Of course that made me unhappy.

By shifting that dependence on God, i empowered myself to surrender. What a liberating feeling that is! He knows the best and that is who I depend upon ( without expectations).

From lower dependence ( on A, B, C’s), I’m slowly evolving to higher dependency (on Bhagvan). The first one is rocky path full of thorns leading to deep plunge in darkness.

The dependence on Bhagvan is path of light. It’s the path of Love leading to unconditional happiness.

Which path should we be on ?

I’m going to conclude with a quote from my favorite poet-

A thousand half-loves must be forsaken

To take one whole heart home. ~Rumi

( then why do we keep running after half- loves?)
